since I left town, you, you, you
you and I do not just hear us
you do me like I hurt you
Going places where you do belong

-Drake, "Hotline Bling"

Biloxi, Mississippi is a place where dreams go to die. Las Vegas casinos Sad imitations line the coast half filled with retirees giving away their fixed income, pulling the lever at a time. Nobody ever wants to be there. You go to Biloxi if you can not afford to go to Vegas or if you can not take the time to go down the coast at Tampa Bay. Biloxi was directly hit in the gut by Hurricane Katrina, but nobody ever talks Biloxi how they talk about New Orleans. If recovered Biloxi, nobody noticed.

So it was appropriate that when I came to rent the airport against Gulfport / Biloxi, nobody could not find my reservation. In my six years of rent a different car every week, which never took place. Maybe I should have taken as a sign return to , but I did not. After finding my reservation number on my application, the frazzled woman behind the counter apologized profusely for the delay, and whispered, "I'll give you something really nice to do for the inconvenience.

Oh, no.

You see, I avoided Mustangs lately. I have done a wonderful job convincing me over the last month that the sale of my Boss 302 was the smart thing to do - the right thing to do. I even did a good job convincing me that I do not want another Mustang when the Fiesta will lease back Heaven in about 10 months. I came to appreciate the FWD and a slight understeer. I enjoyed having four doors. I like not being afraid of the slightest dusting of snow. I cut my fuel costs by 33 percent. Each, upper left brain intellectual thought I had about my decision to take my talents to a dealer in Manchester, Kentucky, was positive. I broke up with not only my boss, but with the Mustang in general. It was a painful separation, to be sure, but time healed all wounds.

Thus, when the keys to a 2016 Mustang V6 Convertible slid their way across the counter to me, I took a deep breath, exhaled fully and ready to fight the gut reaction was that I knew my way around the amount of time it would take me work for spot number 22.

with the "TAG APPLIED" plate that might as well say "LICENSE escape police "I immediately noticed me how easily I am able to put my 27-inch suitcase inside the massive (for a pony convertible, that is) trunk of the convertible. "Hmm," I thought, "could not do it with the boss." My laptop bag as easily slipped in the trunk next to him. "Kind of convenient, really," I said aloud to nobody in particular.

Once I sat in the Mustang, I could not help but notice just improved within the hour is in its last generation. While there was a certain charm to have a spartan interior in the race-ready Boss 302, the V6 convertible is better to have a more intuitive modernization superior ergonomic cab ,. Since my rental was a base V6 model, it came with the simplest version of SYNC, with a small non-touch screen infotainment options. And you know what? It worked great. Moving the Mustang in reverse meant the display shows a view of the rear view camera option, which makes for an easy out of my parking space.

I connected my iPhone 6S Plus with a USB cable to the port in the center console for media purposes, and I also quickly and easily paired with my phone standard Bluetooth functionality. I had a long road ahead of me in Hattiesburg, but I had to take a sizable conference call on the way. I had 15 minutes to melt in the nearest Chick-fil-A drive-thru lane, take some food and hit the road.

Naturally, I put the top down.

Put the top down is as simple as twisting a handle and press a button. No fussy and cumbersome locks to treat. When the top is down, the Mustang manages to pull a trick that few can convertible; he actually cut a silhouette more appealing. As I'm used to the body style of the new Mustang, I always tend to see a bit of Altima in the profile. When the top goes down, however, it becomes less Nissan and Audi, remembering the majestic form of S5.

This was not lost on the soft brown young, beautiful south-waiting who took my order at Chick-fil-A. "I like your car," she cooed. For a teenager, nor the size of the engine under the hood, nor the nature of the question of the rear suspension. My Mustang was a red convertible, and that was enough to make him instantly hit. "Brian, is not this a cool car?" She called a colleague unfortunately mounted acne. His glance in my direction was enough to let me know he had tried to get his attention in any way possible for several weeks, and obvious total failure to do so, combined with his obvious immediate desire for the Mustang, made me hope he was not responsible for the management of my food.

with my great unsweetened tea (total sacrilege in Mississippi) nestled comfortably in my cup holder and my club chicken sandwich grilled on my knees, I put remorse top up and made my call. for the next 60 minutes, no one on the line knew I was in a car, much less a Mustang convertible. The road noise inside the cabin at speed highway cruising was a mere whisper, to the point where I could take my phone out of silent and fully participate in the call. When I used to take my calls 302, the most frequent comment from my fellow participants sounded something like, "BARK! PLEASE put your phone ON MUTE!"

This does not mean that the 3.7-liter V6 Cyclone can not make its presence known when he wants. Aggressive blow to the throttle, and behavior changes Mustang. Although it does not look like a V8, there is a husky tone properly exhaust that reminds you that even the last Mustangs can still scoot. It feels every bit car five seconds, fast enough to blow the doors off of almost everything on the road -. Or nearly equal to a Mustang Cobra R from 20 years ago

Shit, if not a great time to be alive

the back seat, of course, totally and completely unnecessary -. but it is again better than found in the Camaro. I sat back there just long enough to determine that I could go up, then went out. I would not ask someone that you care to sit there for any measurable length of time, lest you find your irreparably damaged friendship.

You might have guessed that I did not follow my Mustang convertible rental, any more than I do any serious hooning - but that is not the purpose of this car, anyway. It's great that Ford and Chevrolet have managed to do with their pony car platforms. There are literally a Mustang or Camaro for everyone. Choose the brand you want to pee on Calvin, and buy another. Need to set some track records? Let me introduce the GT350 or the ZL1. You want some streetable performance that you can live with? How about a GT or SS? Looking to drop the top at a comfortable price and still have that muscular look? Here is your convertible V6

At the risk of sounding like the Ford shill as many of you as I am, I know I would choose. Mustang, all day, every day, and twice on Sunday -. if only for the simple reason that you can see out of it

to get your V6 convertible, optioned like mine with an automatic transmission, 18-inch wheels, and the power driver seat, you will need to plunk down $ 32.735 at your nearest Ford dealer. In a time when the average price of car transactions is almost exactly that number, it's hard to argue that truly fast, comfortable, elegant, and - most importantly - droptop V6 'Stang is a tremendous value. If I were to buy one, I would cut a larger or on the price by opting for a manual transmission on the car a little awkward.

And just as there are some years when I drove the latest version of this car in a much more desirable place, I can not help thinking that, for most people, this V6 Convertible Mustang is the best Mustang. You can not go faster on the highway in a V8 as you can in this horse, so why bother with the extra two cylinders unless your manhood is genuinely threatened by their absence?

My only complaint is that Ford has made it impossible to get it pimped V6 as my 2013 premium rental package. To get all the creature comforts, you face the EcoBoost Mustang Convertible for an extra $ 6,000. I'm sure there's a perfectly sound commercial reason for this decision, but I think I prefer the sixer that turbo.

Anyway, as you guessed it, spend a few days with the 2016 V6 Mustang Convertible has done much to rekindle my passion for the iconic racing Ford. As great as the Fiesta ST, Focus ST and Focus RS is, there is an intangible feeling that comes with driving a Mustang that hatch can not replicate, no matter how great it is. However, instead of getting the biggest and baddest Mustang available next year, maybe I'll take the one I enjoy the most every day, and that would have put a lot less pressure on my wallet .

Welcome back to my heart, Mustang. My brain could say otherwise, but we both know that I missed you.
