Review: 2015.5 Volvo V60 Cross Country (with video) - Volvo may not have invented the car, but no company has as many dedication to th...
Volvo may not have invented the car, but no company has as many dedication to the practice cargo carrier as the Swedish brand. With the new V60 Cross Country, they expanded to six cars in the world (V40, V40 Cross Country, V60, V60 Cross Country, V70 and XC70). the sad fans Wagon Volvo did not bring their little boxes in the United States may be relieved to know the V60 Cross Country is not replacing V60. This means that for the first time in years, we have access to three Swedish cars on our shores.
Exterior
Volvo is a company normally associated with safety and practicality. They are comfortable penny loafer luxury segment if you want. This Volvo's different. Rather than the boxy style-form follows function, we are accustomed to Sweden, the V60 is more about style than practical. The change is visible in the back where we get a hatch that is raked forward and a greenhouse that dives and clip backwards. e still have a subtle touch of "hip" Volvo, but the design has been smoothed and simplified since the S80 1999 that began the modern style of Volvo.
For duty outside of paved roads, Volvo boosted the V60 tower height of 2.6 inches, added some silver trim here and there, exchanged the grid for a version of Honeycomb the theme and added some passages of black wheels. Thus the strange name V60 Cross Country was born. For reasons I do not quite understand, the CC gets larger wheels (18 inches) narrower 50-series rubber. This should be your first clue that the CC is more soft-road that targeted off road. As you would expect of an automobile manufacturer located in the north, the CC can be done with an electric heated windscreen ala Range Rover accelerates the removal of ice when the returns snowpocalypse. Maybe my preference for cars in general, but I think that the controls operate on DC, it retains the vivid style I like the V60, but adds just enough style "robust" to differentiate it on the road .

for those who have not bought a Volvo wagon in a while, Swedes continue mix model numbers around. It was once the wagon variant of the S60 was the V70 and the off-road version was the XC70. Today, however, the V70 and XC70 are based on the S80 wagon. The V50 was once the estate version of the smaller V60 S40 leaving just available. Sounds logical, right? So a V60 modified off-road would be an XC60. Oops, that already exists. Volvo then dusted off their "Cross Country" older nomenclature, the same plate that ostensibly was shortened to "XC" some time. Confused yet?
The V60's is on the small side for this segment and this is most notable in the back where we have less legroom than you'll find in the cars 3-Series A4 and BMW. This is the main reason that Volvo S60 sedan will bring them tense in America next year, unfortunately there is no word of a corresponding V60L. accommodation front seats are spacious, but still offer a room for less than the Germans. Volvo has always excelled thing however is the comfort of the seats. The front and rear seats are well padded and extremely comfortable. All Volvo models 2015.5 finally ditch the lumbar support knob for a variety of power 2 way which is welcome, but not as adjustable as 4-way competition. In an interesting twist, all CC models get a variant of the S60 and V60 sport seats that offer exaggerated strengthening on the back and bottom cushions. I like the feel, but if you are a larger person, you can find a little narrow.
The cargo area is where we see the consequence of sexiness Volvo profile. Behind the curvaceous hatch is half the cargo capacity of a XC60 just 15.2 cubic feet. With the rear seats folded, it grows to 43.5, about half of what you will find in the XC70. The cargo area is small enough that even the BMW X4 questionably practice has a little more room in the back. Audi allroad in the gaps between the XC70 and V60 Cross Country in the overall dimensions and cargo capacity.
Infotainment
2015.5 will provide a larger screen or major changes to the user interface Volvo Sensus Connect but adds a cellular modem. The new "Connected" Sensus provides business research online driver access, media streaming without a smartphone, OnStar telematics services like (Volvo On Call) and access to Wikipedia. The service requires a subscription data using the full range of services, but wisely Volvo has decided to launch a WiFi chipset so you can share your cellular plan with passengers or using a paired smartphone for Sensus data connection if you prefer not to have another cell phone bill. Also along for the ride is a smartphone app to allow you to see if you have locked your car, remotely start the engine, or horn and flash the lights if you lost your car in the IKEA parking.
Volvo Sensus system continues to follow the most entries in this segment by adding features to their eye-catching interface. The system is well designed, intuitive, and strangely Volvo provides access to most everything while the vehicle is moving. This allows passengers to enter information by using the wheel on the dashboard without stopping the car. The driver can use the same button or a control wheel on the steering wheel to control system functions. Charts, maps and voice commands are not quite as well as iDrive and you can not express order your media library that you can in an Acura or Lincoln, but it is competitive with A3 and MMI allroad COMAND and in the CLA and GLA.
Training
slick 300HP Volvo turbocharged / supercharged engine is unfortunately incompatible with the AWD system of the V60. (The output to the rear axle is located in a different place and would require changes to the chassis.) Accordingly, all with AWD Volvos 2015.5 Trued use and true 5 and 6 cylinder engines of the company and 6-speed automatic . To the right of CC, Volvo limit your choice of engine just the 250 HP 2.5L 5-cylinder engine that can handle up to 295 lb-ft in overboost for a limited time. If you want smooth inline-6 turbo Volvo, you'll have to go over the regular V60 or XC70. Fortunately Volvo has chosen to leave the anemic 3.2L engine in the engine compartment of the V60.
2015.5 new logic beings passing through the transaxle greatly reducing the shift time (and sacrifices some shift quality) in "sport" mode. Although he received some modifications of efficiency, a few years ago, the 2.5L fuel economy lags behind the wagon Series 3 to 23 combined MPG. Power backloading is the latest Haldex AWD system can send up to 50% power to the rear axle at all times, and if wheel slippage occurs in the front power transfer can exceed 0%.

the new programming AWD and sports mode transmission was immediately evident behind the wheel compared 2014 S60 T5 AWD I referencing back-to -Rear. The new software AWD sends significantly more horsepower to the rear when the flogging of CC on roads and winding speed passages are considerably faster and firmer. The change in programming is not just about the sensation, he also took an exceptional second quarter of 0-60 hours without an increase in power. The Aisin six-speed transaxle in the range of Volvo products always felt soft compared with ZF 6-speed BMW and Audi, but this software reduced the gap. The improved beam scoots to 60 in 6.41 seconds, a little less than 3 / 10ths slower than an X4 xDrive28i (this review is coming soon.)
With the transition from V70 XC70 engineers softened the suspension, but they have taken a different path with the CC by one of the farms almost crossed vehicles around. The suspension is more tolerant than the V60 R-Design, but considerably stiffer than the XC70 more or Audi allroad. This leads to impressive handling compared to the allroad, XC70, or even distant Subaru competition. Something along the lines of a BMW X4 BMW 328i GT or will feel more agile without doubt, but they are also much more expensive.
On the surface of things, it would Apparently, the $ 41,000 V60 Cross Country command a premium of $ 4,000 compared to the V60, XC60 and XC70. It seemed logical to me first, since BMW charge about the same thing make the X3 less convenient create the X4 X3. However, when adjusting for the AWD standard, 18-inch wheels, navigation, sport seats, gauges LDS, etc. CC actually ends up being slightly lower than a comparable V60 and $ 1,500 less than the XC70 3.2. (Speaking of the XC70 and 3.2 large car Volvo has a line-up. Opt confusion engine for FWD and you get them fresh four-cylinder turbo and new car to 8 reports. Get the midst of trim and you 're dealing with a wheezing atmospheric 3.2L engine, but pony a little more and you can get the same BMW-fighting engine 3.0L turbo twin-scroll as V60 R-design.)
allroad Audi is several thousand dollars more than the CC when similarly equipped and even a slight premium on the XC70 despite being smaller. The rugged Audi handles well, but the Volvo weighs several hundred pounds less and more than compensate for less favorable weight balance in the corners. While the BMW X4 and 3 Series GT can offer superior handling, they also come with a higher price tag. A comparable X4 xDrive28i will cost you at least $ 8,000 more.
The Audi allroad and Volvo XC70 are made to rural life with a Euro key. Flexible suspensions absorb poor sidewalk in the bush, the AWD systems are safe walk on dirt roads and you will not break your kidneys if you decide to drive off the beaten path to check your alpaca herd fashionable. V60 Cross Country has a different mission in mind. As X4 and 3-series GT, the Volvo was made for the people who live on a short but hard gravel road on high speed mountain winding roads for most of their trips. In other words, my exactly.
The problem is, as much fun as the demographic Cross Country was driving, and how he seemed perfectly suited to my demographic, the XC60 or XC70 make a lot more sense. Part of it relates to the position of V60 as an "exercise in style" a practical cargo carrier. The XC60 gives less processing power than you might think twice the load capacity and the XC70 gives you more thrust, more luxury, and again: twice the cargo capacity. 2015.5 The V60 Cross Country is one of the best cars ever sold in America, but I would buy an XC70 T6 instead.
