HP pushes for AR to work with his phone x3 Elite and HoloLens -

HP wants to add augmented reality to its smartphone Elite x3, and it looks like Microsoft HoloLens a way to make .

The x3 Elite, which runs Windows Mobile 10, was scheduled to ship last month from US $ 699.99, but was delayed. HP believes the smartphone has the power to be a PC in a pinch. It could also be an AR device that could be used in business.

Windows Universal applications made to the helmet HoloLens AR work on smartphones, and they could be used on the x3 Elite said Michael Park, vice president and general manager of Mobility HP.

The Elite x3 will not rear right side of the grid, but it will eventually, Park said.

"Directionally which is where the roadmap will be," said Park.

In AR, floating objects are superimposed on real-world scenarios. This will change the way workers interact with the physical world around them, Park said. The ability to increase real-world scenes could help in areas such as medicine and troubleshooting, he said.

A challenge for HP will be to understand how to integrate AR into the smartphone. AR is available in helmets like HoloLens Microsoft, without a helmet, as in the next $ 499 Phab Pro 2 phone Lenovo, which is based on Tango Google to superimpose information and images on its screen. The Phab 2 Pro has special cameras and sensors that can recognize, track and measure objects.

The X3 Elite has a powerful Qualcomm graphics processor but lacks the Kinect-like camera that is included in the Phab 2 Pro to track the object and gesture recognition. However, there are other ways to bring in AR smartphone.

"This could be a head base unit or unit-based arm combined with [handset] unit - there are all kinds of scenarios," said Park .

With the X3 Elite, HP is re-entering the smartphone market, where the company has previously failed. HP smartphones left in 2010 after his unfortunate acquisition of Palm, sale later off the remains of that company in 2014.

Park said it was a difficult decision for HP back in smartphones, but the company could not 't ignore because they are important working tools. For now, HP is exclusively used Windows 10 Mobile in the enterprise-class handsets and has no plans to ship the cheap phones.

"There are many people in the trade area that do not use Pokemon Go," said Park. "We are not trying to hit volumes and scales of Android. We're going after computer stores."

But Windows 10 Mobile stumbles, and HP will not help. Windows phone shipments were only 2.4 million units in the first quarter of this year, capturing only 0.7 percent of the market, according to Gartner. In the same quarter, Android has 84.1 percent market share and iPhone composed of 14.8 percent.

The HP Elite lens with x3 is to bridge the gap between PCs and smartphones. It provides services that desktop applications can be used on the smartphone via the cloud. HP inherited port applications to Azure or Amazon Web Services cloud and applications will be available on the X3 Elite via desktop services and remote cloud.

HP will charge subscription fees for the virtual machine and application services based on the cloud, will be broken down into two categories: "essential" for small and medium businesses that rely heavily on existing applications, and "premium" for enterprise customers, which include the app transformation programs to make the cloud ready.

The x3 Elite weighs 194 grams and is 7.87 mm thick. It has a camera 16 megapixel rear camera, a front camera of 8 megapixels, dual SIM slots, 64GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and a microSD slot. The device includes biometric authentication functions such as detection of the iris and a fingerprint reader.

The HP Elite x3 vision of a true PC replacement hinges on services, processor and accessories. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor in the phone's processing power of PC entry-level chips, but not chips for faster Intel based PC.

A desktop dock allows the X3 Elite to connect to external monitors, input devices, storage and wired networks. Lap Dock - which is more like a silent laptop accessory with a 12.5 inch screen and a full size keyboard - can be connected to a x3 Elite wireless or via a USB cable type C
